Types of Counseling

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is private counseling between a client and a therapist. Counseling offers individuals the ability to build their coping skills, gain an understanding of life situations, and develop plans that will lead to positive change.

Family Therapy

Family therapy can be helpful in addressing family changes, concerns, conflicts and communication difficulties. Family therapy sessions can also be incorporated into individual therapy work with children, when appropriate.

Couples/Marital Counseling

This approach is for couples who are looking to better understand and improve their relationship. Areas to address may include stress management, communication, effective interactions and intimacy.

Counseling for Older Adults

Chronic illness, grief and loss, retirement and relocation are all situations which can lead to depression, estrangement and anxiety for seniors. An FSA therapist can help you recognize your feelings and provide support. Therapists are available to provide guidance to seniors facing the stresses of aging and navigating life transitions.

Psychiatric Services

FSA provides psychiatric evaluations and medication monitoring services, when needed, for individuals receiving counseling at the agency.

Our Team

The agency matches individuals and families with a therapist who is both approved for payment by their insurance company and specializes in the area of need. With a wide array of therapists on staff, all are licensed professionals with training in the areas of social work, counseling or psychology.

The outpatient therapy department is licensed by the State of New Jersey.

These tools encourage self advocacy, personal responsibility and support to manage their illness, helping them to remain living in their community through:

  • Psychiatric evaluations
  • Medication monitoring & education
  • Group therapy
  • Treatment for co-occurring disorders
  • Preparation and tools for employment

First Day provides transportation, breakfast and lunch for program participants.
