Why does my Organization need an Employee Assistance Program?

Every organization, no matter how well managed and structured, have employees who need assistance.  The manifestation of personal or professional problems in the workplace has wide-ranging effects on your organization as a whole. Consider the following:

  • Personal problem can decrease employee production by as much as 25%
  • Health care expenditures are nearly 50% greater for workers who report high levels of stress from Personal, Professional, and Financial Issues
  • 30% of employees feel overwhelming distress about their finances
  • Alcohol abuse is estimated to cost businesses $87.6 billion annually in lost productivity
  • The cost of lost productivity due to drug use is estimated at $128.6 billion annually

On an individual basis an employee assistance program helps troubled employees manage their problems.  In aggregate terms, the benefits may be calculated as cost savings for your organization that also provides a healthier, supportive environment for your staff.
